Mr. Auerbach has represented clients and litigated matrimonial matters throughout the United States. He was the Principal Drafter of the Illinois Marriage and Dissolution of Marriage Act enacted in 1977. Millions of Illinois citizens have been divorced under this law. He has lectured and written extensively on matrimonial law.
 
The Illinois Institute for Continuing Legal Education has described him as the Dean of Illinois matrimonial lawyers. He handles complex financial matrimonial litigation.
 
Mr. Auerbach was a partner in the Chicago law firm of Jenner & Block from 1972 to 1980. He was the 7th lawyer in the history of Jenner & Block to enter that law firm directly as a partner and not as an associate.
